Introducing Our Staff

 

 

 

Mandy Stringer, Executive Director
Mandy has worked in the non-government sector for over 18 years and is committed to the continuing development and health status of women. Mandy has previously worked as a Community Development Worker in Madang, Papua New Guinea, and has delivered a range of education programs for Family Planning in Darwin and regional Aboriginal communities.

Mandy has a strong commitment to the Social Model of Health and is interested in maintaining and expanding a high level of service at WOMEN’S Healthworks.

 

Lynne Wishart, Administration
Lynne is the Administration Officer for WOMEN’S Healthworks and provides information on resources, referrals to other agencies and any other information women may wish to access.

Lynne’s role is quite extensive as she carries out reception duties and provides administration and clerical support to all staff (answering telephone, making and confirming appointments, preparation of confidential client files) and is also responsible for maintaining the day-to-day accounts, bookkeeping and preparing staff wages.

 

Pam O’Connor, Psychologist
Pam is a Registered Psychologist, whose background also includes nursing and community services. Pam uses a variety of approaches to therapy including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, which assists women to change their patterns of thinking, and Hypnosis, which can be useful for conditions, such as smoking, addictive behaviours, confidence building, self-esteem, stress and anxiety.

Pam joined WOMEN’S Healthworks in August 1993 when it expanded to include a Psychologist.

Tracey Hennessy,
Program Development Manager
Tracey completed a BA in Sociology and Anthropology (minor in Children and Family Studies) in 1997 and has worked both in the not-for-profit and government sectors.  Tracey commenced work with WOMEN'S Healthworks in November 2008, and brings with her the passion of working and supporting women, in all facets of life.  Tracey has worked in and has held management roles in delivering family support programs, parenting services, child protection programs and community development initiatives.  Tracey completed a Grad Dip in Training and Development in 2007 and has particular interest in supporting women in the many roles they hold and creating opportunities whereby their wellbeing, personal growth and a sense of self; are promoted.

 
 

Susan Hobbs
Receptionist
Susan is a Receptionist at WOMEN'S Healthworks and commenced in August 2009.  Sue works on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays carrying out reception duties and supporting staff with various other duties.

  

 Marie Pearson, Clinic Nurse
Marie completed her Enrolled Nurse training in the UK. She has worked in a General Hospital mainly on Gynaelogical and Surgical wards. Since migrating to Australia she has worked in Palliative and Aged care. Marie assists in running the medical clinic.

 

 

 

 

Dr Maire Kelly
Maire (pronounced Moya) is a British trained gynaecologist, who has a special interest in family planning and women’s health. She and her family came to Perth in August 2005 and enjoy the lovely warm relaxed lifestyle. As well as working at WHW on Thursdays, Maire works at King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEMH) part-time.

 

Dr Christine Reid
Christine joined WOMEN’S Healthworks in March 2007. Christine graduated from UWA in 1996 and has worked in general practice in Quinns Rocks on a part-time basis for 8 years. She completed FRACGP in 2006. Christine has an interest in all aspects of women’s health - preventative health, family planning, mental health, menopause, and so on.

 

 

The Body Esteem Program

Cath Ashton, Co-ordinator
BEP & Stepping It Out Program
BA (Hons) Health, City & Guilds (7307) Teaching Adults, Consultant Facilitator STORM (Suicide Prevention Program)
Cath graduated in 2001 and worked for the National Health Service in the UK for seven years within the areas of mental health promotion, eating disorders, women's health and suicide prevention.  Her work in these areas has led her to deliver policies, strategies, workshops and conferences based on the social model of health with a view to highlighting and addressing the discrimination and stigma associated with mental health issues.
Since emigrating with her family to Perth in March 2008, Cath has continued her work in the health setting maintaining her strong interest in mental and emotional health and women's issues.
   
   

Jemma Caswell, Self-help group facilitator
Jemma has Certificate III and IV in community services and is currently in her final year at ECU, completing a Bachelor of social Science majoring in Youth Work.  She holds a special interest in the field of mental health and is hoping to further her studies and experience in this area.  Jemma completed the Body Esteem Self Help Group in its pilot year 2005 and has been a volunteer at WOMEN'S Healthworks since 2006.  

 

Kathleen Chinn, Self-help group facilitator 

Kathleen has had previous experience working in the hospital environment, and she is also a fully trained Civil Registrar.  In the Isle of Man she also completed a Cruse Bereavement Care Course, which offered services of counselling to help people with Bereavement.  Kath moved to Perth in 2006 and so far has achieved Certificate 1V in Marriage Celebrancy, and  Auslan 1 (Australian sign language).  Kathleen is very interested and passionate about the Body Esteem programme and feels very privileged to be part of the team.

  

   

The Village Project 

Jenny Robinson, Drug and Alchol Clinical Social Worker 
Jenny's degree in Women's Studies was later complemented by a degree in Social Work and training in the Narrative Therapy approach.  Jenny uses this approach in working with women who have children under 18 years of age and who want to make changes to their drug and/or alcohol use.  Jenny is passionate about her work as she hears stories of the positive changes to a child's life when their mother begins the journey of standing against illicit drugs and/or alcohol.

 

 
   
   
   

Complementary Health

 

Debbie Burton (Consultant Naturopath)
Debbie is an experienced naturopath/medical herbalist with a special interest in women’s health and all aspects of health care. Her services include iridology, herbal medicine, homoeopathy, nutritional advice and therapeutic massage. Vera Washer RN
(B.Natural Science - Naturopathy, Practitioner in Reflexology, Reiki and Flower Therapy)
Vera has been providing Reflexology appointments at WHW for over 11 years and is a full member of the Reflexology Association of Australia. Vera also facilitates workshops through the centre on a variety of complementary therapies. Vera is available for consultations at WOMEN’S Healthworks with appointments varying from week to week.
